T.J. MilesTo return to the artist's gallery, please click hereTJ Miles was born in Co. Antrim in 1965. He studied art until he left school at 16 to begin his working life. After a variety of positions he went back to part time education to retrain for a career in other fields, as he felt he had become trapped in the 9 to 5 routine of 'normal life'. Never one to remain still for long, he began to reinvent himself. He decided that he wanted more challenges in life and started channelling his energies in other areas. He completed a second level art qualification and also psychology at the same time. Then decided to shift his interests towards sociology for a third level qualification instead of art. He returned to art about 6 years ago to fulfil a need to record experiences living on Northern Ireland. Originally working in water-colours, then progressing to acrylics for more flexibility to mould with his imagination. He had for some time been working with woodturning and progressed to clock making using all manner of materials, though most satisfaction was gained by working with slate and copper. His art then became more adventurous and very surrealistic, influenced mostly by Magritte, De Chirico and, of course, Dali. This met with much approval on the Irish art scene. More recently, he has returned to a more abstract and naive style with more traditional images influenced by Markey Robinson and other Irish artists. His paintings are now in private collections in Ireland, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and the USA, as well ascorporate and public collections in the North and South of Ireland. He is represented in Ulster exclusively by Hughes Galleries Ltd.
